Why you need to care about branding your small business

There’s still an air of mystery surrounding the topic which leaves some people asking “What even is branding?” or “Is branding really that important for me to bother with it?” especially as a small or new business when you’re trying to save on costs.

Long story short, of course I think branding is important - I’m a branding designer after all.

Your brand is more than just a logo. Think of a logo as the central hub of your business, the primary visual identity. But a logo doesn’t make a brand - there’s a huge difference between me designing you a logo and then creating your brand…

You can attract dreamy customers

Branding is lead by your mission and your ideal customer and includes everything from your logo, colour palette, tone of voice, processes, design style and values. Get all of these right and you’ll be attracting dreamy clients time and time again, ensuring you’re doing the work you love everyday.

To build brand recognition

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this in a previous post, but consistency really is key. Imagine seeing an advert for the new Iphone on social media, then going on the website and the font, colours and style were totally different. Then you walk into the store to pick up the phone and again, the feel just doesn’t match. It would be weird right?

And that’s Apple. Imagine a small business doing this. It would be incredibly hard to build any recognition among customers, so it’s important to keep in mind that all the elements of your branding should string together harmoniously.

You’ll have a brand whether you create one or not

Even if a business decides not to participate in creating a iconic logo, a seamless brand identity and perfecting their tone of voice - they will be given an identity by the people who interact with their brand. With endless opportunity to post how we feel on social media, write reviews and even boycott a business altogether - if you don’t narrate your brand image and tone of voice, other people will do it for you.

To stand out against the competition

I really feel the phrase “it’s a saturated market” is incredibly over used. If anyone wants to do something in any industry, there will be someone else saying it’s oversaturated. But branding really plays a huge part into identifying, visualising and promoting your unique value proposition to stand out in a saturated market.

This is why when I work with a client, I don’t just design a logo and wish them all the best. It’s about discovering who you are, what your mission is, who your clients are, what problem to do you solve and then designing something that’s beautiful and unique bespoke for your business needs.

It gives you the confidence to love your business

When I open my laptop in a morning and check my website I love seeing it. When I schedule a new post on Instagram, my feed makes me happy. When I send a new client their welcome page, I’m proud of the service I provide.

I created a brand for Twenty Seven Digital that makes me jump up in the morning to nourish it’s growth more and more every day. My driving passion comes from wanting to help other entrepreneurs feel the same way about their business through the power of branding strategy and design.

Hopefully this post has helped show you that branding really is more than just a logo and if you’re interested about what type of things are included in my branding packages, check out my branding services.
